About Us

Swords Hockey Club was founded in 1980 following a general meeting of local people interested in promoting the game in Swords. This meeting offically elected a committee to run the club for the 1980-81 season. A ladies team was entered in the Leinster Leagues and competed at minor B level. They played their first game on 11st October 1980 versus Muckross winning 4-0.

The following season ('81-'82), the men made their debut at minor C level on 9th October and continued to complete until 1988 when dwindling numbers lead to the withdrawl of the men's team. In contrast the ladies have carried the banner with some success from their foundation to the present day.

Finding a home venue proved a major headache for the fledging club and initially games were played at the V.E.C. in Ballymun. The problem was solved with the opening of Loreto College in Rivervalley in 1986 and the provision of an all weather hockey pitch which was rented by Swords Hockey Club.
