Swords 1sts 1-0 Corinthians
Swords Hockey Club went back to the top of the league table on Saturday with a hard fought 1-0 win away to Corinthians. Swords made things hard for themselves in the first half and never really got a hold of the game, letting Corinthians have a lot of the possession. Stephanie Jones in the Swords goal pulled off a superb save before half time to keep the teams level. Swords knew they had to turn things around in the second half and began well, attacking the Corinthians defence and creating a goal chance straight from the tip-off. The improved performance was seen throughout the team and some good attacking play put the Corinthians defence under pressure again and again. The goal finally came midway through the half when Lee-Ann Wood attacked down the right and sent her cross into Aisling Corby in the Corinthians circle. Corby controlled the ball and passed to the onrushing Siobhan McKittrick who made no mistake in burying the ball past the `keeper. Swords pressed for another goal, and came close through a short corner, but the score-line stayed at 1-0 and swords were relieved to come away with another valuable 3 points.
