Swords Hockey Club 1st team secured another important 3 points in the league on Saturday, away to Trinity. Swords had a poor start to the game and were lucky not to be behind at half time after Trinity had mostly dominated the play from the start, attacking Swords with quick ball and high intensity. Swords managed to create some chances of their own in the first half, but unfortunately couldn`t manage to finish them off.
The second half saw Swords much improved and they started to dominate midfield, causing Trinity to lose control of the game. Some good attacking play from Swords saw them increase the pressure on the Trinity defence and resulted in a couple of short corners, however it was from a free outside of the circle which broke the deadlock for Swords. The free from Siobhan McKittrick saw her beat 3 Trinity players and link up with Rachel Jones who then squared the ball across the goal for Breda Orohoe to tap into the corner. Shortly after Swords won another short corner, but this time made it count as it was executed perfectly from Cerrie Byrne to Fiona Walshe on the left who buried her shot passed the `keeper. With about 10mins to go, Trinity won a lucky short corner and against the run of play pulled a goal back. This provided a nervous final few minutes to the game but Swords hung on to claim all three points and in fact were unlucky not to have scored again at the end of the game.
